We also ordered the Painless battery cable kit, which comes with positive and negative 1-gauge wires, copper terminals, and shrink wrap. The kit is a cut-to-fit application for any type of install. Be sure to run the ground wire from the negative battery terminal to a clean chassis ground, as well as run a ground wire from the engine block to a chassis ground. Not having a properly grounded electrical system will let loose all sorts of wiring bugs.

To satisfy all our cooling needs this US Radiator aluminum radiator/electric fan combo was ordered. The aluminum radiator is a high efficiency two-row radiator with 1-inch tubes and 18 fins per inch. There was enough room for one fan-which US Radiator offers-but I opted to up the ante with dual 11-inch Spal fans. The great thing about US Radiator is they will custom make a radiator and shroud per your dimensions, which makes everything simple, efficient, and clean. They even equipped the radiator with tranny cooler line fittings for the Gearstar 4L60 tranny.

Painless offers various electric fan relay harnesses. I went with a dual-action harness. To install the harness, simply route the harness wires to their designated locations, supply ground and power to the US Radiator fans, and install the temp sending unit in the kit. Then once the motor hits 185 degrees the fans kick on.

Another item we picked up from Painless is this Power Star starter. The compact, direct replacement starter is equipped with 160 lb-ft of torque for long-lasting cranking power.

At this point Get Shorty is wired. Before we hooked up the battery we connected the battery cables to a 12-volt battery charger and tested everything out. Once the bugs were worked out we used the Painless wiring Power Braid to clean up the install. (Note the black spiral looms around engine bay.) To install the Power Braid, slide it over the desired wires and the laterally split design will securely close around the wire, or wires.
