No Limit Engineering has been manufacturing hot rod parts and accessories for more than 20 years. One of their more popular items is the flipped hood kit. No Limit offers flipped hood kits for a variety of classic trucks, including '53-56 Fords and '55-57 Chevys. Along with those applications, No Limit also offers a kit that has flown beneath the radar, in terms of coverage, for '47-54 Chevys. Although the kit has been around for some time now, there has never been any editorial coverage on the kit anywhere; at least that we can find. That means not too many know of its existence, a true diamond in the rough if you will. Like the other No Limit flipped hood kits, this '47-54 Chevy truck kit has been specifically engineered and designed to fit this model truck. The kit isn't a universal system that leaves the R&D to the costumer. Instead, it is a true bolt-on (a few holes do need to be drilled) installation; a simple installation at that. The kit is constructed from all new parts that include laser-cut steel hinges and various other components. As for the tracks, they are CNC-machined from aluminum for precise fit and function. Even the rollers are constructed from durable, yet smooth and efficient, aluminum. The kit is also available with several options; because one can order a bare bones package that comes unfinished, or an optional chrome version is up for grabs as well. When installing the No Limit flipped hood kit, it replaces all of the working hood components, besides the latch. The actual install time isn't much more than a couple of hours, but like any sheetmetal modification, the true hours of labor are in alignment and fitment. The kit is adjustable to accommodate alignment from side-to-side, and front to back, however, it may take a few turns of the wheel to get things steered down the right track. We headed out to No Limit Engineering's headquarters, in San Bernardino, California, to follow along with No Limit technician Mike Mobley as he slapped one of these "previously unknown" kits on a '54 Chevy. Here it is, the No Limit flipped... Here it is, the No Limit flipped hood kit for '47-54 Chevy trucks. Everything needed for the install is included, and the kit is offered as a bare bones steel package, or as a show quality chrome package, shown here. The first step is to install... The first step is to install the hood bracing. Michael Mobley began by finding and drilling the forward brace mount. At the rear of the hood is a factory rivet. (Green arrow) By measuring 261/4 inches from that rivet, you get the forward mounting position of the hood braces. Once found, drill the hole. Mike then installed the No... Mike then installed the No Limit hood rollers, which mount to the factory hinge bosses in the hood. Attach the rollers using the provided five 1/16x3/4-inch bolts. The hood braces are installed... The hood braces are installed by attaching the Heim joint ends to the tabs on the hood rollers, and to the provided tabs that mount to the forward mounting holes. (Drilled earlier)... Next, remove the factory hood... Next, remove the factory hood latch, and place the hood on the truck at this time. If any side-to-side adjustment is needed, do so now, by either tightening or loosening the Heim joints on the hood braces. Check to make sure the hinge... Check to make sure the hinge has been placed directly in the center of the hood, and the holes are marked accordingly, in terms of keeping the hinge straight. Installing the hinge anywhere but center will throw off alignment. Do not drill the forward holes at this point. Bolt the upper hinge to the... Bolt the upper hinge to the hood via the slotted holes. From there, install the hinge brace to the upper hinge... ...When doing so, be sure... ...When doing so, be sure the offset hole is towards the front of the hood, this too has to do with alignment. The third piece, the lower... The third piece, the lower hinge plate, bolts below the latch on the core support. Mike removed the latch and installed the hinge plate. Before the hood can be installed,... Before the hood can be installed, the new roller tracks need to be in place. The tracks install in the two rearward fender mounting holes. Be sure to install the provided spacers, and the tracks are left/right hand specific as well. When installing the tracks, the No Limit scripture should be facing away from one another. Now the fun begins, installing... Now the fun begins, installing and aligning the hood... ...First up, grab an extra... ...First up, grab an extra set of hands, then bolt the hood brace to the lower hinge via the 5/16-inch bolts provided. Here you can see that the... Here you can see that the initial test run is pretty close. To further fine tune the hood, try sliding the hood via the slotted mounting holes on the upper hinge plate. Once the front to rear alignment is set, drill the other two holes out on the upper hinge... ...If the alignment, dealing... ...If the alignment, dealing with the No Limit products, is tapped out, the other way to make up slight miscues is to adjust the fender alignment. Also included in the kit is... Also included in the kit is this hood brace that holds the propped hood open. A secret no more, the word... A secret no more, the word on the No Limit Engineering flipped hood kit for '47-54 Chevy trucks is out-and for good reason too.
