It can't be overstressed how much easier disassembly work goes when the first step is to use a good penetrating oil such as Royal Purple Maxifilm. In addition this will help to ensure a minimum amount of damage will occur to the parts.

With the penetrating oil doing its thing, we used a flare-nut wrench to undo the brake fittings without rounding off the flats. Using a common open-end wrench is a good way to round flats off, and necessitate using Vise-Grips.

After the brake lines were disconnected, we immediately capped off the ends with plastic pipe-plugs to eliminate brake fluid leakage (it's caustic) and eliminate the possibility of dirt entering the brake hydraulic system.

Removing the stock spindles began by removing the caliper retaining bolt on top of the brake caliper, and then sliding the brake caliper sideways (left or right) from its mount. Do not suspend brake calipers from the brake flex-hose as it can damage the flex-hose.

With the brake caliper completely removed, the next step was to remove the hub dust caps, then the cotter key, and then back the hub nut off counterclockwise. Once the hub nut was removed from the spindle, the brake rotor came off an assembly with the wheel bearings inside.

Once the disc brakes were removed and the spindles stripped bare, the next step was to completely back the tension off the torsion bar (counter-clockwise) by accessing these bolts on the underside of the frontend (directly underneath this view).
