Here's the thing, though-we want the shiny tin to stay, but the syrup, which is acid, needs to be cleaned off or the lead won't stick. To remove the acid, simply make a quick pass over the acid with the torch and wipe it off with a rag. However, make sure to not heat things up too much or you will wipe the tin off as well.
