To prevent antifreeze straying from the water jackets into oil galleys and other exposed areas, we knocked out the freeze plugs (also called soft plugs or expansion plugs) to drain the antifreeze. Reinstallation included coating new brass freeze plugs with Permatex and then drifting them in with a 3/8-inch-deep socket that fit the inside diameter snugly.
