Thanks for replying, it is really useful to get another opinion as this is my first classic truck so I am finding my way as I go. It looks like I need adapters rather than spacers as there isn't enough length on the studs so I am going to try these http://www.ezaccessory.com/6_Lug_Wheel_Adapters_s/46.htm The CPP brake kit is good if you go that way, the only difficulty I has was driving the new studs in which were an extremely tight fit and took about an hour with a 5 lb hammer. there are only 3 wires to the back of the truck... Brown... tail lights and license plate lights.. yellow left turn and stop... dark green.. right turn and stop.. there seem to be 2 sets of connectors.. one at the back of the truck where the tail light harness connects... another up near the cab or in the cab.. yellow and dark green come directly from the turn signal switch .. on the turn signal switch there are 8 wires.. yellow.. rear left turn and stop dark green rear right turn and stop. light blue front left turn and dash indicator dark blue front right turn and dash indicator white.. from the brake light switch into the turn signal switch black.. out to the horn.. actually the horn contact in the steering wheel connects this to ground. purple from the turn signal flasher... so... with a test light at the turn signal switch connector... do you have power at the white wire at the turn signal switch when you step on the brake pedal?? yes or no... can you find the turn signal flasher?? do you have power on both sides.... the diagram i show has purple wires on both sides.. but with the flasher unplugged.. it will only have power on one side. that comes from one of the fuses.. that power comes from the pink wire from the ignition switch. with the turn signal switch centered.. when you step on the brake pedal... do you get power on the green and the yellow wires???? showing the tail light contacts inside the turn signal switch is intact... most test lights are too small to make the turn signal flasher operate.. by just probing the purple wire... now the brown wire... comes directly from the headlight switch.. the headlight switch gets power from several sources ... into the headlight switch is an orange wire.. that also supplies the brake light switch with power.. that comes from the MIDDLE of the 5 fuses.. so... white wire at the turn signal switch.. power when the brakes are depressed?? yes is good. yellow wire at the turn signal switch.. power when switch is centered and brakes depressed. dark green wire at the turn signal switch .. power when the switch is centered and the brakes depressed.. the 66 model did not have factory installed hazard flashers... if you wanted to install a switch to convert to hazard flashers... it takes a 4PDT, ON-ON TOGGLE SWITCH. with the toggle configuration of ON-ON instead of ON-off. or ON, off ON...

my 58 chevy truck seems to top out at around 45-50 mph, was told the rear end is why likely a 4:56 gears... does this sound right? and if I changed rear end what would it best?

there are a bunch of 5 speed transmissions that bolt right up to the back of that engine... the NV4500 is probably what most people are going to want.. there are variations.. would you like more info one various 5 speed GM transmissions.?? are you going to run the Vortec fuel injection .. or are you going to buy a Vortec carb type intake.. an HEI with either a coil in the cap or some kind of vacuum advance distributer.. you will also have to install an electric fuel pump as the block might not have a fuel pump mounting area.. if it happens to have one. . there will NOT be a lobe on the cam shaft

don't forget.. the tail light and turn signal sockets are grounded thru the reflector.. do you have a LONG set of battery jumper cables.. that are individual?? not paired. hook up one to the negative side of the battery.. then extend it with the other cable to the back of the truck... touch the end of that cable to the housing... see if the turn and stop lights work now... at least on that side...

Need advice-- How to hook up linkage to trans on 1958 chevy truck 3 speed manual, trans has 2 short shafts on side for hooking linkage up to, can someone tell me how the two shafts work and hook up ? is closest shaft for 1st and rev? and farthest shaft for 2nd and third? how do you know they are hooked up right? The rain gutters on my 1972 Chevy pickup's previous owner used bondo and the paint was starting to crack and i noticed rust. I have removed the bondo, but the rust is substancial. One friend suggested i grind the gutter off and weld the seam. Any ideas? (I am not a body man, but can figure most things out)

which type of mirrors... small mirrors can be installed with just self tapping sheet metal screws.. larger mirrors .. can really use something called WELL NUTS... http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Images/WellNuts.png this does not work with ALL MIRROR TYPES... as some need to be flush.. and the flange on well nuts sticks up usually 1/8" to 3/16 above the surface.. napa stores may have them. if you talk to the parts manager.. truck parts stores that sell mirrors will have them.. many hard ware stores will have them but most of the staff won't know what you are talking about.. look for the drawers on the fastener isle.. there are also RIV nuts. or RIVET NUTS.. work like a pop rivet.. except they are installed with a bolt.. that pulls the tip in and expands the shaft to hold it tight in the metal... i personally like well nuts... but its up to you... if you go with just screws.. don't forget to put some silicone sealer on the threads and under the head.. so they seal tight... ultra grey works good for this.. as it gets fairly hard..
