There’s nothing like getting up on the weekend, hitching your boat or trailer up to the back of your truck, and hitting the road on a new adventure. For you 1947-1955 Chevrolet First Series or GMC truck owners, TBRT Engineering has released its 61030 Trailer Hitch which directly bolts on to the frame and allows for the towing capacity of larger trailers that a normal bumper does not.
What’s nice about this specific trailer hitch is its ability to be hidden. Normally what you have is a type of trailer hitch that locks into a receiver tube and is locked by a ball mount and the coupler is then locked into that piece. The result is something that is bulky and takes away from the aesthetics of the vehicle itself. The way the 61030 trailer hitch has been designed to position the receiver hitch between the rear frame rails seated below the bed.
What makes this design so convenient for all builders is its direct bolt-on capability to the original bumper bracket. If you decide to use the actual bumper itself, you can bolt the hitch on the outside of the frame and insert hardware to bolt both the brackets and hitch together. For those of you who would like to bolt this to the roll pan, modification may be needed.
The 61030 uses high-quality 1/4 –inch thick steel tubing. All welds have been certified by licensed welder, and to provide a longer life, the hitch has been powdercoated to a black powder finish. This product can haul up to 6,000 lbs. trailer weight with a tongue weight of 600 lbs. It is available at an approximate retail price of $289.00.
