Bill Snaith of La Habra, California, was having a truck built at Street Machines by Stedman in Hemet, California, when he joked that he should just buy Bruce Stedman’s personal 1956 Chevy pickup. Bruce didn’t consider it a joke and quoted a price. After adding up how much more he was going to have to spend on the project truck and comparing the two amounts, Bill struck a deal and became the proud new owner of a medium blue Chevy.
Bill drove the truck home that day and has enjoyed it for about a year. In 1994, while it still belonged to Bruce, this 1956 Chevy won the Western Nats at Long Beach, California, as well as the Cal Truck Jamboree in Anaheim, and it was also able to take Best Truck at the Bakersfield Super Chevy show in California. Because of the fame and notoriety of the 1956, Bill often hears, "Hey, this is Bruce’s truck!" This is a common situation for people who have bought award-winning trucks that are well-known on the show circuit. But now that Bill has lived with a show-winning truck for a while, he’s come up with some ideas on how he’d do things differently. So he’s back to making plans for a new truck.
What makes this truck stand out is the attention to detail. Every bolt is lined up to face the same direction, the driprails are shaved, the seams in the cab and doorjambs are welded and filled, and much more has been refined to perfect this ride. The Dextron PPG polyurethane enamel Medium Blue paint manages to be an attention-getter without screaming at the viewer.
