Originally, this 1959 Ford F-100 just needed the brakes worked on, but Scott Oshinski just decided if he was going to restore the brakes, he might as well just restore the whole thing. The truck brand-new was sold by Bowen Ford Co. in Metter, Georgia for $2314.67. In 1984 the truck was purchased from a friend for $2,500 in Atlanta, Georgia. The truck seemed fine in terms of rust and paint but in 1990 the truck started experiencing some problems with the overdrive transmission. As a result, the truck was put into storage until one day Scott’s father-in-law, Art Carney, asked for help on the brakes. This is where the project was born.

Oshinski decided the best way to deal with the brakes was to get a Fatman IFS kit from NoLimit Engineering and get to it. Every nut and bolt was replaced on this truck. Oshinski’s buddy Dale Clay helped also helped him out on this one.

Underneath the hood there is a 1996 5.7L Ford engine backed by a 1996 AOD transmission. The chassis is stock and was powdercoated from PRO-FINISH POWDERCOATING in Grand Rapids, Michigan. All the bodywork was done by R Vee’s Custom Paint in Hudsonville, Michigan. To add some red to the car, Oshinski chose Dupont Torch Red. Most of the interior was done by Oshinski himself and the upholstery was completed by LA Trim. The wiring from the truck was borrowed from a 1996 Ford F-250, a job that would prove to be very time consuming, and the steering wheel is a Billet Specialites.

The total build time for this F-100 was five years and one of the hardest things for Oshinski was finding time to build it with a brand new family (Wife, Linda Oshinski, and two kids, Brendan & Makenna) and now it’s a real head-turner for Art. The most memorable experience in the truck was going down a rural dirt road at 60 mph and going to cross a one lane bridge with another car coming. Unfortunately, he could not stop and that was his first brake failure. He was able to get across the bridge and slow down by down shifting avoiding a potentially fatal crash.
