Guys Like Us at Goodguys Del Mar
Back in April, we cruised down the California coast for a few days in the sun at the Goodguys 10th Annual Del Mar Nationals. Not surprisingly, there were a ton of trucks at the show, a number of which were freshly completed over the short SoCal winter. We had a chance to talk to a number of owners and realized how many were loyal readers of CCT. That said, we decided to give the Readers' Rides section a little twist this month in honor to all of you who bring your trucks out to these events for us all to enjoy. Check out the photos and keep your eyes peeled for a more in-depth peek at a number of them in future issues.
Editor's Note: Getting your truck into Readers' Trucks is a snap, of the camera, that is. All it takes are a few good-quality photos of your ride that are in focus and well lit. High-resolution digital photos can be sent in via email to: ryan.manson@sorc.com. Traditional prints are also acceptable and should be sent to: CCT, c/o Readers' Trucks, 1733 Alton Parkway, Irvine, CA 92606. It is important that you include a detailed description of the modifications you have made to your truck, including any interesting stories behind it. Due to the volume of mail we receive, we regret that we cannot return photographs.

When you're known as the "Bag Man," as the sign on the door of this '41 Chevy clearly points out, you'd better have a slammed old truck!

John Hemphill cruised down...

John Hemphill cruised down from his home in Studio City in his Ford powered '47 Ford pickup. We love the fact that John left the exterior of the truck in stock guise for the most part as you don't see too many of these pre-F-series trucks.

Jose Carvajal's '66 Ford looked like it was built to get business done. Jose's hauler is powered by a 351 Cleveland.

We see a couple of COEs at every major event, but can't say we see many Studebakers! This '48 is owned by Mark Novak of Ventura.

From El Cajon, California,...

From El Cajon, California, Mike and Jon Austin's '66 Dodge Power Wagon is just plain bitchin'. While it looks like it's more akin to tearin' up those high desert dirt roads, we like to picture it rippin' down the highway, scaring soccer moms and yuppies.

Kevin Wilsey's stunning root...

Kevin Wilsey's stunning root beer and black two-toned '55 Chevy had a crowd around it all weekend long.

Jeff and Tristin Mattazaro's...

Jeff and Tristin Mattazaro's green '56 Chevy was the result of a barter between a friend of Jeff's. He built his buddy a new shop in return for the Chev. Not a bad trade, eh?

We just love all the chrome these late '50s GMCs had on them. This black example is owned by Jim Franklin of Chandler, Arizona.

Another truck parked inside the hall was Joey Morris' '55 Chevy 3100 from nearby San Diego.

We dig the early '40s-era trucks as the ugly ducklings are often overlooked when it comes to the classic years. But Lee Cory's '41 GMC is a perfect example of how well they can look when done right.

Robert Anderson's '56 Ford...

Robert Anderson's '56 Ford was one of a handful of trucks parked inside the Goodguys Display of Excellence hall.

Cody Wentz's roaming lens...

Cody Wentz's roaming lens caught Jonathan Garcia's '68 C10 a few years back for CCT and when we saw it this year at Del Mar, it looked as good as ever.
