Slant Six Willys
Out of LaGrange, Georgia, comes John Schlicher and his '51 Willys Overland with one of the most complete Volare conversions anyone has ever seen. Not only did John snag the '77 Plymouth Volare's front torsion bar suspension, complete with disc brakes and power steering, he snaked the 225-inch Plymouth Slant Six engine as well. A Lokar shifter handles pulling the TorqueFlite tranny out of Park and dropping it into gear. Daring to be different, John mixed a set of pinner whitewalls from Pep Boys with a pair of white-lettered tires on the rear. A pair of Caddy taillights lay horizontally in an extra-wide rear bumper. John wanted to pass along his thanks to Autozone and the Pull-It wrecking yard in Ringold, Pennsylvania. Because of them he was able to build the Willys without spending a ton of money.
