One Crazy Ford
Instead of opting to build a more popular mid-'50s Ford, Michael Walstead from Higbee, Missouri, decided he'd take a crack at building a '67 Ford. First Michael shortened the bed 18 inches. Then he installed a narrowed Ford 9-inch rearend with 15x14-inch Weld Racing wheels. To accommodate the bigger meat, he brought the rear springs inward as well. Up front, the entire front half lifts forward, but Michael also retained a stock opening hood as well. Under the custom hood is a 429ci Ford motor backed by a C6 tranny. The doors were altered when Michael designed them to open similar to a Lamborghini. He also built a customlouvered tailgate to bring the back to life. Lastly, he sprayed the truck Starburst red.
Livin' The Dream
When it comes to custom classic trucks, it's not just the building process that matters, it's what comes after that. Living proof is Joseph and Quinn Page, because they have to be a few of the happiest guys we've heard from. Just check out this letter:"A year ago I purchased a '65 Chevy shortbed truck along with my grandson, Quinn, who is 14 years old. He and I started showing the truck at local car shows. The first show we entered was held by the Wolf Pack Car Club. We took Best of Show for the GM Classic Truck and First place in the Classic Truck division. This event enticed us to continue to show the truck, and we ended up placing first in eight events. Not bad for a couple of beginners. By the way, our truck features a 283 small-block backed by a 400 Turbo transmission."
