Editor's Note: Getting your truck into Readers' Trucks is a snap, of the camera, that is. All it takes is a couple of good-quality photos of your ride that are in focus and well lit. Due to the volume of mail we receive, we regret that we cannot return photographs. Please shoot and send photos of your truck only (no people, pets, Polaroids, or printouts) to: CCT, Readers' Trucks, 774 S. Placentia Ave., Placentia, CA 92870. It is important that you include a detailed description of the modifications you have made to your truck, including any interesting stories behind it.
TJ Jimmy
Huntington Beach, California, resident Jack Redman found his '58 GMC not far from his home for only $2,300 in 1994. The truck came from the GMC factory equipped with a 270-inch GMC six-cylinder backed with a four-speed compound-low tranny. The best part of the deal was that the Custom Cab big-window truck came complete with its original chrome grille and bumpers. Since then Jack has dropped in a '93 350-inch Chevy truck motor with a 700R4 tranny. The paint job on Jack's Jimmy was done in Tijuana, Mexico; he passed on the TJ tuck 'n' roll job.
The Lower '38
Photographer Rodger Rohrdanz bought his '38 Ford panel truck 25 years ago in Southern California's San Gabriel Valley. The panel took Rodger around 10 years to complete, and has been finished for over eight years. Mike Greenwood at Frank's Auto Body in Huntington Beach, California, shot the '38 in a bright blue lifted from a '91 Chevy color chart. Propulsion comes from a 350/350 combo hooked to a Ford nine-inch rearend. Rodger's panel maintains a whopping 211/42-inch ground clearance at all times thanks to its non-adjustable suspension.
460-Inch '55 Ford
Old Fords never die, they just get a bigger engine. After the 292-inch Y-block Ford V-8 in Armond Bletcher's '55 shortbed pickup bled to death from a busted outside oiler, it was time for a change. Armond yanked the Y-block out and dropped in a 460-inch Lincoln motor with a C6 automatic transmission. Other features include Sherwin-Williams paint, new custom upholstery, and chrome-reverse rims. Armond says he is currently evading the police and would rather not reveal his whereabouts.
