The Hitzes, Lynn and Ed, are bound to be the heroes of all hot rod hauler fans in their hometown of Lafayette, Indiana. For 12 years the Dodge sat behind a neighbor's house. It began work duty as a 1-ton, extended-chassis dualie stakebed. The Hitzes shortened the frame 18 inches and installed an original stepside bed from another '54 Dodge pickup. The truck still has the original front straight axle. In the 10 years that Ed and Lynn have owned the '54, they've transformed it and given the truck a whole new lease on life.
Editor's Note: Getting your truck into Readers' Trucks is a snap, of the camera, that is. All it takes is a couple of good-quality photos of your ride that are in focus and well lit. Due to the volume of mail we receive, we regret that we cannot return photographs. Please shoot and send photos of your truck only (no people, pets, Polaroids, or printouts) to: CCT, Readers' Trucks, 1733 Alton Parkway, Suite 100, Irvine, CA 92606. It is important that you include a detailed description of the modifications you have made to your truck, including any interesting stories behind it.
