F-1 Plus 3 Obviously the color choice had something to do with naming this flatbed truck. From Simi Valley, California, Art Janisch's '49 F-4 stakebed has been dubbed "Tweety Bird." Tweety runs a 350ci small-block with a mild cam, roller rockers, and a Turbo 400 trans. The bed features a diamond-plate bed with a hydraulic lift. Pussycats that take on Art's toy do so at their own risk; this canary packs a powerful punch.
Low-Key '67 Clarke and Sharon Elliot's clean-but-mostly-stock '67 Chevy stepside has been a regular attendee at car shows in the far northern states around their Billings, Montana, home for the last nine years. The original six-cylinder and three-speed stick remain, but the pickup is lowered (2 inches front, 4 inches rear) and runs a Langdon manifold, Classic Chevy disc brakes, and a Bruce Horkey Kentucky coffee-wood bed floor.
StudeDuallie We love seeing well-planned trucks with an unusual mix of parts. Phelan, California's, Bob Johnson built his trick peach-hued '50 Stude 1-ton pickup using the stock frame upgraded with a GM 502ci crate motor, a 4L80E trans, 1-ton disc brakes, and a Chevy tow-truck differential. Then Bob added a '90s Chevy dually bed that was slightly narrowed. Bob rides comfortably on a narrowed '88 Chevrolet 60/40-bench seat after spending six years on the build. Nicely done, Bob!
Cool '72 Kevin Caster inherited his family's '72 Chevy Cheyenne a couple of years ago, then teamed with his brother to do a quick rebuild. The truck is dropped all around, has a C-notched frame, dropped spindles, and an adjustable Panhard bar. It rolls on 17-inch Eagle wheels and Toyo radial tires. After he buttoned up the 370hp 350/350 drivetrain, he called on his brothers-in-law to hook up the tunes. Now he can be (both) seen and heard proudly cruisin' the streets of his Central Point, Oregon, home.
One Fine F-1 Billings, Montana, has been home turf for Jeff Richardson's '50 Ford F-1 since he finished it originally in 1982. The classy green Effie was refreshed a few seasons ago with a Mustang II frontend, a B&M blown 302ci Ford with a C6 trans, a 9-inch rearend. Now the F-1 has a great stance and stops and steers as well as it goes.
