Forum boards with members from all over the world are the latest form truck clubs have taken. The crew from www.67-72chevytrucks.com really kicked out the jams with the most members in attendance, complete with a slew of really cool trucks.
Not even a Detroit-bound terrorist packing a bomb in his Pampers could have stopped me from attending the 10th Annual Midwest All Truck Nationals held in Riverside, Missouri. It was September 11, 2009 and I was aboard an American Airlines jet headed to KCMO with my trusty Canon 40D riding at my side. If you've never heard of the Midwest All Truck Nationals don't feel like the Lone Ranger, it's one of the best-kept secrets in the classic truck scene. CCT's feature editor Tim Bernsau and I first learned of the event while we were covering Back to the '50s in St. Paul, Minnesota, when Gaileen Jackson approached us and extended an invitation. After telling about how she had driven up from KCMO in her big-block-powered early C10 with fellow club members she went on to explain that their group, the Genuine Chevy GMC Truck Club, has been hosting the event since its inception. In addition to making for a great excuse to gather together in the late summer sun, and enjoy all things truck, the Midwest All Truck Nats are held to benefit three worthy charities: Toys for Tots, Operation Breakthrough, and Hope House.
Even though the September 11-13, 2009 event was produced by a GM-branded club the turnout from other makes such as Ford, Studebaker, and International was equally as impressive. This must have been because the greater Kansas City area, and the states surrounding it are smack in the middle of a proverbial truck heartland. The attendance of local sponsors like LMC Truck; Classic Parts of America; and Jim Carter Classic Truck Parts, with a booth set up at the show, confirms my heartland theory. I highly recommend to anyone finding themselves looking for a really great truck show this one shouldn't be missed.
