Awise man once said, "If a beach city in California is worth going to, it will have been mentioned in a Beach Boys song." For Del Mar, California, the song was Surfin' USA, and the number one way to get to the beach with a surfboard in 1964 was in the back of a pickup truck. Today, if a person wants to go to a car show that is any good with a number of classic pickup trucks in it, they log onto the Goodguys Web site and find out where the Goodguys are throwing their next show.
Originally the Goodguys' Del Mar show was the show-season opener, but that distinction has moved a little farther north to the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa a couple of years ago. That said, the Orange County Goodguys' Get-Together (Custom Classic Trucks, July '08) is still in its infancy and the Del Mar show is still the granddaddy of the Southern California coast. Instead of rambling on about how wonderful the weather is and what a perfect venue Del Mar is for a classic truck show, I'm going to shut up so there will be more room for photographs-and so you folks can decide for yourselves.
