When it comes to the Orange County/Los Angeles area there really isn't anything missing. No matter what one desires, from bizarre to ordinary, the greater area pretty much has it all. Yet in the hot rod realm there was one key event missing from the smorgasbord that is Los Angeles: a Goodguys event.
With the abundance of Goodguys shows across the country, one had to figure it was only a matter of time before an event invaded the Southland. Well, last year marked the invasion of the inaugural Goodguys Orange County Get-Together, which meant this year's event had to be bigger and better. Granted, last year's show/cruise was a huge success, but Goodguys still saw some room for improvement.
For this year's event, which took place at the O.C. Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California, over March 15th and 16th, the original game plan was left pretty much intact-only it was given a few doses of steroids. For starters, the show was still open to all years of American-powered rides and one could still cruise the grounds, but Goodguys added one key highlight to the show: an open-to-all autocross event. Goodguys teamed up with Air Ride Technologies to host this autocross event smack dab in the middle of the show. The best part about it was that the event was open to any car registered to participate in the show-and once you took care of the "paperwork," participants were free to make as many passes as they pleased. Add all of that to the fact this year's show was twice the size of the kick-off event, and it's a pretty safe bet that the Goodguys Get-Together will be staying with Orange County for a while.
