This time around was the fifth year for the Texas Showdown. The Showdown is a two-day overnight event that draws some of the best vehicles from all around the Lone Star state. It takes place at the Sam Houston Race Park, which is just a stone's throw from Yosemite Sam's Houston-Style Bar-B-Q ribs. For the folks that like do more than just sit in a chair and listen to show spectators talk smack about their trucks, the show featured a BMX bike show, a burnout competition and, of course, the obligatory wet T-shirt contest.
In past years, the Showdown has been known for being held during extremely hot weather. In contrast, the 2007 Showdown was plagued by unusual amounts of heavy rain and abnormally large bugs with yellow antennas. The rain was bearable, but the bugs were very disturbing.
The inaugural morning of the show started as usual with the sun glaring down from above, but by mid-afternoon the rains came and stayed for the rest of the weekend. In spite of it though, the rainy weather could not dampen the spirits of the attendees. There were over 450 registered vehicles that entered the grounds over the weekend, and once the dust was settled there were over 8,000 folks that went through the gates.
