Most rode low. Some appeared stock. Several reached for the stratosphere, perched atop NAPCO or modern custom suspensions. The number of hot rod and classic haulers in attendance made the event the biggest and best ever. The 7th Annual Chevy & GMC Truck Show & Shine, produced by Brothers Classic Chevy & GMC Truck Parts, offered entertainment, food, a chock-full vendors row, and an abundance of pristine, classic custom GM pickups.
Minutes before the 8 o'clock start on Sunday, July 10, 2005, we arrived at Featherly Park in Anaheim, California. A score of pickups had already parked, while rumbling Chevys and GMCs emerged from the morning mist to find places in the sun. We found an eclectic mix of freshly finished trucks, former winners, and in-progress pickups. We visited with the Flanders brothers (of Brothers Trucks fame), and joked with owners of pickups recently featured in CCT. Since the Brothers Trucks show is right in CCT's backyard, it's more like a family reunion or a neighborhood block party. The best part is the most popular partiers at the Brothers annual reunion are always the most pristine pickups. They're easy to spot: The engines sing the sweetest. Their interiors smell and feel the freshest. And their meticulous finish, paint, and chrome shine the brightest. In other words, the best Bow Ties and Jimmys at the Brothers annual shindig weren't donning lampshades to stand out; they exuded custom classic design.
